Now in their 15th year as a musical unit, Talon have gained a large following in their own right, performed the greatest hits of The Eagles hits with energy and reverence while injecting their own personalities into the proceedings.
Saturday evenings presentation was no exception with guitarist Tony Vegas raising smiles while encouraging audience participation during Take It To The Limit and Chris Lloyd, Peter Anderson, Jonny Miller demonstrating their virtuosity taking on multiple instruments from guitars to keyboards while performing various tracks from different permutations of Eagles line ups.
Supported by Keith Buck, Craig Wainwright, Charlie Kenny and a horn section consisting of Tom Mark, Chris Welch and Sam Adams, the band delivered pitch perfect recreations of Don Henley’s Boys of Summer, and The Eagles’ Take it Easy, Heartache Tonight, Life In The Fast Lane and Lying Eyes.
However it was the bands a cappella recreation of the 300 year-old standard silver dagger that served as a preface to Take It Easy that really made the hairs on your back stands on end.
The inclusion of Eagles favourites Long Road Out Of Eden, Sad Café and The Last Resort, you would imagine all bases were covered but with screams of “We want more” from the riverfront audience the paying public got their request with renditions of the classic Hotel California and Desperado. Let’s hope it won’t be long before a date is confirmed for Talon’s third consecutive date at Newport Riverfront.
