AndyHowells chats to Welsh singer-songwriter Siôn Russell Jones

Critically-acclaimed singer-songwriter Siôn Russell Jones will be playing a special show at Blackwood Miners Institute tonight Friday 31 January, 2014 in support of his forthcoming EP Lost No More.

In the wake of the release of his latest single ‘Best of Me’, Siôn has been chosen as BBC Radio Wales Artist of the Week. The track was released in December with stunning reception from BBC Radio 1’s Jen Long and Alley McCrae, BBC Radio 6’s Tom Robinson and more. This quintessential pop song is the first single from Jones' second EP in twelve months, Lost No More, which will be released in March 2014 on SARJ Records.

Siôn will be touring across Western Europe throughout early 2014 with dates in Switzerland, France, London and several performances in Wales. He is also working closely with Charlotte Church’s publishing company, See Monkey Songs.

Who are you and where are you from?

My name is Siôn Russell jones and I'm welsh singer and songwriter from Cardiff.

How would you describe your music style?

I would describe my musical style as a combination of acoustic and folk traditions with strong power pop influences. I borrow ideas from a very broad spectrum of Musial styles and it all amalgamates together to create a style that I think (hope) is unique to me.

What’s been your best live experience?

A few months ago I was fortunate enough to be given the opportunity to tour with Hanson on their World tour. The live experiences I had where incredible and the climax of the tour was the final show, which took place in the O2 indigo arena in London to an audience of 2700 people. The experience itself was phenomenal and one I'll keep with me for a while!

What have you been doing recently?

I recently finished recording my second album 'Lost No More' and I'm currently in the middle of recording my first welsh language EP. It's something I've been meaning to do for a while and I'm really happy to be releasing it later this year.

What can people expect from your forthcoming Bristol gig?

People can expect to see a selection of tracks from my first and second albums along with songs from two other extended plays that I've released.

Where can people hear your music?

People can hear my music online at www.sionrusselljones.com / on iTunes, Amazon and Spotify as well as a selection of live and pre-recorded videos on my YouTube channel.
