NEWPORT’S eagerly-anticipated £90 million retail and leisure centre is taking shape with signage being put up detailing the high street stores set to open their doors in November.
Queensberry, the company behind the centre, is now planning ahead for the opening of the Friars Walk, which will bring numerous restaurants and retailers in - cluding a 12 lane bowling alley into the city centre.
Meanwhile, Cineworld bosses say they are excited for the opening of its second multiplex in Newport next month.
The new cinema which will have eight screens will open on November 12 on the day the multi-million shopping centre opens for business.
The cinema will include American ice-cream parlour Baskin Robbins and will house 1,007 seats.
It will be the second Cineworld in Newport which together with the Spytty Park cinema will offer 21 screens and the capacity to seat more than 3,973 people.
Kerrie Hanbury, general manager of Cineworld in Friars Walk, said: “We’re so excited about the opening of Cineworld Newport Friars Walk and can’t wait to open our doors to everyone in the local area.
“At Cineworld, we want to offer the best experience for all our customers, making their trip as memorable as possible and with such an exciting line-up of films still to come, like Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Snoopy and Charlie Brown – The Peanuts Movie , we look forward to welcoming the community and sharing our passion for film.”
In addition to showing the latest Hollywood and Bollywood releases, Cineworld Newport Friars Walk will be offering weekly discounted movies for juniors screenings for £1.75 on Saturdays, Sundays and school holidays.
More than 4,000 people turned up for a jobs fair earlier this month to fill 600 full and part time posts at the development.
The cinema was part of a recruitment day held in the city in September in which 40 jobs were on offer.
The 390,000 sq ft Friars Walk will open at 10am on November 12 and includes Nando’s, Prezzo, Debenhams, Burger King and Topshop.
It is estimated the scheme will employ 1,500 people.
