A NUMBER of A-level students at Coleg Gwent are giving 100 per cent by becoming maths mentors at Ebbw Fawr Learning Community.
The School of General Education at Blaenau Gwent Learning Zone has established a partnership with the secondary school to form a team of Mathematics Mentors, which involves A-level students supporting groups of GCSE pupils in preparation for their exams.
Coleg Gwent lecturer Dr Shaun Andrews said: “Alongside the class teacher, our students provide coaching and support to Year 10 and 11 pupils.
“This is an excellent opportunity for our A-level maths students as some are considering a future career in teaching.
"Our mentors are easily able to move between both sites without it causing disruptions to their own learning plan.”
Head of maths at Ebbw Fawr Emlyn James said: “The A-level students have been really helpful supporting the learning of key stage four students at Ebbw Fawr Learning Community.
“We have timetabled them with examination classes who benefit from additional support preparing for GCSE examinations.”
