A NEW hotel and restaurant has opened in Abergavenny, creating dozens of jobs and an investment of £6.4million to the area.
The new Premier Inn hotel and Brewers Fayre restaurant were officially opened in the new Westgate development on Friday, creating 60 new full and part-time jobs.
The 61-bedroom hotel is now open to the public, with the restaurant, next door, opening its doors today, Monday.
Lyndsay Roberts, operations manager for the Premier Inn in Abergavenny said: "We're delighted to start welcoming guests from near and far to Abergavenny, and hope that even more people will now be able to enjoy all that the area offers.
"As a business, we’re absolutely committed to investing back into the areas where we operate, and are really pleased to have been able to bring so many important new jobs to the town.
“We are looking forward to quickly establishing ourselves as a valuable and successful member of the community."
Bedrooms at the hotel include a 40" flat screen TV, a luxury king-size bed and free WiFi.
The new Brewers Fayre will offer everything from burgers, curries and steaks to chilli, scampi and salads on the main menu.
Marcus Ramsdale, general manager at the Abergavenny Brewers Fayre said: “We’re delighted and proud to open our doors to the public. We have spent a lot of time working on the presentation of the restaurant to give our guests the wow factor and we hope it will soon become a lynchpin of the Abergavenny restaurant scene, enjoyed by locals as well as guests visiting from further afield.
“We are confident our visitors will enjoy the venue, food and dining experience as much as we do and friends and families can make the most of their time here.”
Abergavenny’s deputy mayor Margaret Harris said she was 'delighted' the businesses have opened.
“The two businesses have played a key part in bringing new jobs to the area and with the arrival of household names like Premier Inn and Brewers Fayre, it is a great sign that businesses are showing real confidence in Abergavenny and that the town is going from strength to strength,” she said.
James Crawford, CEO of Johnsey Estates, said the property company was pleased to sell the land to Whitbread for the development.
Work is also under way on building a Costa Coffee Drive Thru, for Johnsey Estates next to the Premier Inn and Brewers Fayre at Westgate. The new store will open in early October creating up to 20 new jobs.
