A DOCTOR Who video game made by a Newport company has won a prestigious award - despite not even being released until next month.
Doctor Who Infinity, created by Tiny Rebel Games, was named UK Game of Show at last month's Games Development Conference in San Francisco.
The game allows players to play through a series of brand new stories in the Doctor Who universe, featuring a number of Doctors and other characters. Among actors from the programme who have leant their voices to the game are Michelle Gomez, playing Missy, and Ingrid Oliver, playing Osgood.
It follows Tiny Rebels Games' Doctor Who Legacy game, which has been played by more than 2.5 million people since its launch in 2013.
The Welsh Government provided more than £300,000 funding towards the game.
Economy secretary Ken Skates said: “The Welsh Government is proud to have worked closely with Tiny Rebel Games in supporting the development, marketing and distribution of the game, and we were delighted to include them as part of our recent trade mission to San Francisco.
“This prestigious award, the success of Doctor Who Legacy and the positive press that Doctor Who Infinity has received on social media and from reviewers from GamesSpot, DigitalSpy, Tom’s Guide and ComicBook all bode well and will I’m sure serve as a springboard for the game’s success when it officially launches next month.”
Doctor Who Infinity will be available for PC and Mac through the Steam platform next month, and will be available for mobile devices in the future.
