CHILDREN from a nursery entertained visitors and carers at the official opening ceremony of a Caldicot home care centre.
Helping Hands Newport and Caldicot opened in May, but held an official launch event to celebrate the branch’s successful start yesterday.
Caldicot’s mayor, Cllr Oliver Edwards, conducted the ceremony and officially opened the centre, accompanied by Helping Hands’ chief operating officer Ben Lee, and branch manager Kym Wright.
Helping Hands is a family-run home care service which has been operating across England and Wales since 1989.
The Newport and Caldicot branch will serve as a local headquarters for the company’s carer staff, as well as a training base for new carers, who will learn vital skills like dementia care and first aid.
Ms Wright said: “I’ve lived in the Newport area all my life so I know the area well and I’m very passionate about supporting local residents.
“I have worked within the domiciliary sector for over 10 years in total and find it is so rewarding when at the end of the day you go home and know you have made someone’s quality of life that little bit better.”
At the opening ceremony, children from Little Stars Under Fives nursery delighted their audience with a combination of Welsh songs and their own favourites.
Rebecca Giddings, Helping Hands’area marketing manager, said the children’s performance was the perfect way to launch the branch.
“It was amazing, they put their all into it”, Ms Giddings said.
