Dear Jack Straw MP, It is out of a matter of urgent and grave concern that we appeal to you on behalf of the residents of Cwmbran and surrounding areas.

Both myself and my husband are fearful regarding the proposal to building an open prison at the premises of the former police college on Greenmeadow Way, Cwmbran. The proposal made by the Ministry of Justice is totally unacceptable to residents of Cwmbran and especially those like us who would be placed directly in the path of immediate danger as we live directly opposite the proposed site. The Ministry of Justice should also consider that there are three schools as well as an old age complex in the vicinity.

Why should children be made vulnerable to some paedophile and pensioners to be left defenceless against heartless criminals?

The 200 residents who attended the (public) meeting at the Power Station on the 6th of August all of which were 100% against this proposal, are united in the struggle for a safer society.

What guarantee of safety could the Ministry of Justice offer the residents of Cwmbran? What manpower could be employed to ensure the safety of our children, the elderly and the vulnerable?

It would be greatly appreciated if you took the time to reconsider your evaluation of this prospect of a prison being built in a residential area where the safety of our children and our future are at risk.

Yours Sincerely Lorain Haynes
