A GROUP of Newport teenagers are trying to raise more than £55,000 to travel to Kenya to work with villagers.
The group of 16 Duffryn High School youngsters, including Ashley Pyke need to raise £3,550 each, a total of £56,800, to take part in the month-long trip in the summer of 2011.
They will travel to Kenya to work on community projects, including building schools and houses, going out there with charity Camps International.
Ashley, 16, of Mallard Way, has got his fundraising efforts underway by offering his services as a handyman to friends, family and neighbours, doing odd jobs for £5 an hour which he will pay into a bank account set up for the trip.
He and his friends are also arranging car washes and bag packs to help raise money.
He said: “I’m really excited about going, we’re looking to helping people.”
