A NEWPORT actor and film-maker is looking forward to becoming part of TV history when he appears on the final ever episode of ITV drama The Bill tomorrow.
Darragh Mortell, 21, of St Mark’s Crescent will play the role of Gary Wilson, leader of the Parkway Crew, in the programme which will be aired tomorrow at 9pm.
Following last week’s episode, the final part of the two-episode finale will see Superintendent Jack Meadows played by Simon Rouse try to prove the gang is responsible for a murder and gang rape.
Darragh’s past roles have included playing the role of Crash in ‘The Story of Tracy Beaker’ from 2002 until 2005 as well as a role in Casualty.
The former Caerleon Comprehensive pupil was also shortlisted in the BAFTA 60 seconds of fame competition in January 2008 for his short film ‘The World is a Playground’. His film which gave a glimpse into the future where two warring factions came together to bury their differences was among those considered to represent Wales at the British Film Academy Awards.
The talented youngster also played the part of Mikey a rapper in the Channel 4 and MTV interactive programme Dub Plate Drama last year alongside stars including Tulisa from rap group N-Dubz.
But Darragh, who landed this latest role following an audition, said this was one of the biggest parts he has played.
He said: "A lot of well-know British actors have been in The Bill so to be part of the final episode is brilliant and people keep saying I am becoming a part of TV history.
"It was amazing working with the rest of the cast and there was a real sense of accomplishment among everyone to make it a fantastic final."
Darragh now plans to continue working on his role in the BBC children’s sitcom Dani’s House and also hopes that this first stint at prime-time television will lead to further big television roles in the future.
