POLICE are probing the death of man whose body was found on the bank of the Severn Estuary in Newport this morning.
A member of the public discovered the body of the male, thought to be 54 years old and from Cwmbran, on the coast between Redwick and Goldcliff, at around 10.20am.
Detectives said the death was not being treated as suspicious at this stage, meaning no third party was thought to have been involved.
Gwent Police Insp Hugh Jones told the Argus: "A body was discovered by a member of the public on the bank of the Severn Estuary between Redwick and Goldcliff at approximately 10.20am.
"We are waiting for the body to be formally identified and it is believed to be a 54-year-old man from the Cwmbran area.
"His family have been informed of this possibility and are being supported throughout this process by trained officers.
"The death is not being treated as suspicious and the coroner has been informed."
