A BUSINESS and entrepreneurship expert is Newport University’s new deputy vice-chancellor.
Professor Stephen Hagen, who was previously director of research, business and innovation at the University of the West of England, started in the academic post this month.
He has published a series of studies into European companies’ foreign language needs.
He said he was delighted to be joining the university at this exciting time when the university is carrying out expansion plans including the new £35 million city campus, something he believes will generate the city centre.
Professor Hagen said: “The future of the University lies in working closely with business, employers and supporting the local community. “I would also like to see the University expand its already substantial and constantly growing global activities and increase our international links.”
Professor Hagen is an Honorary Fellow of the Institute of Linguists, a member of the Institute of Directors, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and a Fellow of Warwick Business School.
Between 1993 and 2004, Professor Hagen advised the British Government on the development of the first National Languages for Export Campaign.
He has held directorships on the Board of Warwick University’s four trading companies and in the 1980s and 1990s founded two start-up businesses himself.
