IT LOOKS good enough to eat. An extravagant sugar replica of Raglan Church, created by a Cwmbran woman, will go on display at the historic church this month.
Lynsey Gunn, 34, spent 150 hours creating the masterpiece from sugar and icing after enrolling on a cake decorating and sugar craft class at Torfaen council’s Croesyceiliog community education centre four years ago.
This led to her setting up her own cake making business Sugar Flowers two years ago which she runs from her own home.
It was as part of her course that Mrs Gunn had to do a personal project and came up with the idea of creating a church.
She said: “I had a particular style of church in mind and couldn’t find the right one. I was talking with my husband Mark who had just fitted some altar lights at Raglan Church and it sounded exactly like the type of thing I was looking for.”
After doing some research, Mrs Gunn then spent time between September last year and March this year developing the 2.5ft by 2ft creation.
The design includes windows created from rice paper and small lights placed inside the hollow masterpiece to light up the church.
The creation will now go on display at Raglan Church from June 11 -13 before being put up for sale with all proceeds going to the church.
