PUPILS from three Newport primary schools will get a bird's eye view of the winged creatures nesting in their school grounds after scooping the top prize in a council biodiversity competition.
Youngsters from Rogerstone, Millbrook and Langstone primary schools came joint first in the competition to win a bird box complete with webcam.
This will allow them to study the different types of birds visiting the box and watch them feed and lay eggs, via the camera linked to a computer, without disturbing them.
Rogerstone’s eco club impressed judges with a three-minute film, which gave viewers a guided tour around the wildlife hot spots in the school grounds.
Teachers at the school say the hi-tech bird box will help children learn more about nature and the natural habitat of birds and compliment the outdoor work done under the Forest Schools project.
