HE IS world famous after helping to recycle tens of thousands of plastic bottles and now Tubby, the Cwmbran recycling Labrador has another tag to add to his collar - a Guinness world record.
Seven-year-old Tubby, who is owned by Sandra Gilmore, of Cadoc Road, West Pontnewydd, was named today as having the title of ‘most bottles recycled by a dog’.
This is after Tubby, the only Welsh entry in this year’s book, helped recycle an estimated 26,000 plastic bottles over the past six years.
On his twice-daily walks, the pooch collects up to six plastic bottles each day from wherever he can find them before crushing them in his mouth and passing them to his owner who recycles them in her black box.
The category is a new record title created after Guinness World Record organisers spotted Tubby and his story in the media.
The Argus first reported on Tubby in March last year.
Since then, he has featured in media world-wide and has been sent presents from as far as America such as a luxury dog bed and a £200 voucher for dog food.
He also has his own Facebook page, features in a Torfaen council comic strip and in May this year he was presented with a Civic Award from the council.
Ms Gilmore said: “I am thrilled Tubby is in the Guinness World Records.
“He still very much enjoys collecting the plastic bottles each day and it is great he is being recognised world-wide.”
Guinness World Records are now calling for more Welsh entrants to be made.
