NEWPORT Gwent Dragons youngster Tyler Morgan is in the frame for Wales' World Cup quarter-final showdown with South Africa after Liam Williams suffered another injury blow.

The Scarlets wing/full-back has been ruled out of the tournament after damaging his right foot in the 15-6 loss to Australia at Twickenham.

Wales are already stretched to the limit in the back three with Leigh Halfpenny, Hallam Amos, Eli Walker and Tom James all sidelined.

That could see Morgan come in for his third cap in the last-eight encounter with the Springboks at Twickenham on Saturday (kick-off 4pm).

Warren Gatland could bring the 20-year-old from Caerleon in on the wing, leaving George North in midfield, or he could hand Morgan the 13 jersey and put the Northampton powerhouse back out wide.

Another option would be to bring James Hook in at outside centre but Wales must cope with the loss of Williams, one of their most devastating runners of the past year.

"We are very sorry for Liam, he's been outstanding in the last couple of years," said Wales skills coach Neil Jenkins.

"He's a huge player for us and he did well again against Australia. He will be a huge loss but we have had quite a few injuries now and we have to get on with it.

"If anyone comes in it will be an opportunity for them. We will wait and see what Gats (head coach Warren Gatland) wants to do. We have enough players in the squad to cover at the moment."

Morgan made his Test debut in the warm-up Test against Ireland in Cardiff but didn't make the initial cut for the World Cup.

He was called up when Cory Allen suffered a hamstring injury against Uruguay and got his starting chance against the Flying Fijians after Scott Williams suffered a knee injury against England.

Morgan is on a national dual contract but has just 23 Dragons appearances to his name and Gatland went for experience against the Wallabies despite being pleased with the youngest member of his squad.

He said before the Australia game: "We were happy with Tyler last week. Rob spoke to him and told him that he had learned a huge amount from the Fiji game. He's one for the future definitely."

That immediate future could well be on the wing, where he starred for Wales at the 2014 U20 World Rugby Championship, given that Jamie Roberts and North performed well against the Wallabies.

Wales have few options as a squad replacement for Williams with Cardiff Blues utility back Rhys Patchell a front-runner given that there are no stand-out candidates on the wing, with five-times capped Dragons speedster Tom Prydie sidelined by a knee injury suffered at Leinster last weekend.
