DAN Biggar insists Wales won’t find it hard to lift themselves for Saturday’s World Cup quarter-final against South Africa.

Victory over Australia would have meant a last eight clash with Scotland and an easier route to the final.

The mood at Twickenham after the 15-6 defeat to the Wallabies was downbeat but Biggar says Wales should take the positives from edging out hosts England in Pool A.

“We’re obviously disappointment – we’ve just lost a Test match in a World Cup,” said the Ospreys ace.

“But ultimately we’re in the quarter-finals of a World Cup with the tough group that we’re in and the injuries we’ve had so overall we’ve got to be positive.

“We’re excited for next week for South Africa who we’ve had recent successes yet.

“We play in the quarter-finals of a World Cup next week and it doesn’t get much better than that – 80,000 people at Twickenham against the third best team in the world.

“It’s not going to be difficult to raise ourselves for. We’re absolutely desperate for it to come as soon as possible.

“We’re disappointed we’ve lost a Test match but let’s keep things in perspective,” he added.

“We’ve done incredibly well to get out of the group with everything surrounding us, we’re in the quarter-finals of the World Cup, which is a huge occasion, and you can tell the boys are gagging for it.

“It’s going to be a huge, huge match and difficult game but that was the objective at the start of the tournament to come out of the pool and we’ve done that and we need to be positive.”

Biggar says Wales will take great confidence from finally beating the Boks at the Millennium Stadium last year.

“That’s huge, which is why we’re very positive,” he said.

“We should have won the game out in South Africa in the second Test last summer and we had a great win in the Millennium Stadium last autumn.

“Out of the southern hemisphere teams, we’ve got the best record against them recently.

“There’s no denying that they’ll bring a varied game and it’ll be a huge, huge task to stop them.

“We’ll go into the game as underdogs and we’re looking forward to that and the challenge it presents.”
