WALES boss Warren Gatland has declared that selecting novice Newport Gwent Dragons centre Tyler Morgan for the World Cup quarter-final against South Africa was a no-brainer.

The 20-year-old from Caerleon will win his third cap in the pressure cooker atmosphere of a knockout clash with the Springboks.

Morgan, who has just 23 Dragons appearances under his belt, will renew the partnership with Jamie Roberts that he formed against Fiji.

He missed out on the matchday squad for last weekend's Pool A decider with Australia but returns following Liam Williams' tournament-ending foot injury that sees George North return to the wing.

It had been sugested Gatland was weighing up whether to go with the experience of 80-times capped James Hook at 13 but the New Zealander said there was no such selection headache.

"It wasn't tough at all," he said. "Tyler had a bit of a tight hamstring last week so wasn't in contention and if you look at the squad been 100 per cent consistent with selection of guys originally selected.

"We thought Tyler played exceptionally well against Fiji for a young 20-year-old and we're putting our faith in him again.

"He's an out and out 13, definitely a player for the future and a great opportunity for him. I can't see where the debate is on that selection."

Morgan did well against the Flying Fijians when faced by the powerful running of veteran Leicester outside centre Vereniki Goneva.

On Saturday he will be head-to-head with a fellow Test novice – the Bulls' Jesse Kriel, 21, has just eight caps to his name and like Morgan represented his country at the 2014 Junior World Championship in New Zealand.

The Boks are sure to attack Wales with their usual direct approach but the way that the Dragons youngster stood up to the physical Fijians means the management have no qualms at giving him a first cap away from the Millennium Stadium.

"Tyler played really at 13 against Fiji up against an experienced outside centre in Goneva, who was very physical," said attack coach Rob Howley.

"That's probably something we will have to defend against and attack against at the weekend. "Tyler came through that game really well and if wasn't for his injury might have started against Australia."
