JOSS Labadie will wear the captain’s armband when he returns for Newport County AFC against Accrington Stanley on Saturday.

The midfielder, who took over as captain from Scot Bennett last month, has served his three-match ban for the red card he picked up against Crawley Town a fortnight ago.

And, with stand-in skipper David Pipe a doubt due to injury, caretaker manager Michael Flynn has confirmed that Labadie will lead the side.

“Joss is the captain,” said Flynn. “Pipey has been the captain for the last few games because of Joss’ absence and I thought it was the right thing to do.

“David does it the right way, he prepares the right way and he’s definitely matured as a footballer over the last few years.

“Also maybe a little bit of me thought he was captain when we got promoted so it would be a good omen.

“I had a chat with Benno and I think he performs better when he’s not captain,” he added.

“That was the only reason why he’s not had the armband. He’s fine with that. It’s not an issue.”
