AFTER the huge success of last year’s inaugural showpiece, the South Wales Argus Sports Awards are back with a bang.

Chepstow Racecourse is the setting for this year’s ceremony on Wednesday, May 22, where the great and good of Gwent sport will be recognised.

Newport County AFC manager Michael Flynn walked away from the first South Wales Argus Sports Awards at the Celtic Manor as sports personality of the year.

Others honoured included taekwondo ace Ben Meyrick, the young sports personality of the year, and Bethany Paull, who scooped the disability sports performer of the year gong.

Valleys Gymnastics Academy and Pontypool United RFC were also award winners on the night, as were Elliot Dee and Ben White, Dragons and County players of the year respectively.

And you can now nominate the person, team or club who you think deserves to be acknowledged for their efforts in the world of sport.

The same 14 categories as last year will be contested and nominations can be made at www.southwalesargus.co.uk/sportsawards, with a closing date of Monday, March 18.
