JAMES Rowberry has an almost fully fit squad to choose from as Newport County AFC prepare for their second pre-season outing tomorrow.

New signing Omar Bogle will get his first minutes in amber as the Exiles has Hungerford Town in a behind-closed-doors friendly at Dragon Park.

Rowberry took a strong squad to Undy Athletic last Friday, prioritising getting minutes in the legs of his first team over fielding a side of youngsters and trialists – as has been seen in previous pre-season openers.

And he’s confirmed that it will be the same again as the National League South side make the trip to Newport.

“We’ve got pretty much everyone available,” he said. “Everybody’s got through the training programme, so everybody will play a minimum of 60 minutes on Saturday.

“We’re looking forward to getting those lads game time.”

Lewis Collins was taken off just over 15 minutes after coming on against Undy, having gone down with a tight hamstring, but Rowberry confirmed this was just a precaution and that there were “no issues” for the youth academy graduate.

Defender Priestley Farquharson was the only other absentee through injury, and he will again miss out as he is carefully worked back after knee surgery ended his 2021/22 campaign.

“We’re just making sure we manage his load properly at the minute,” said Rowberry. “We don’t want to push him too hard too quickly at this moment in time.

“We’re just managing him, but he’s on the road that we need him to be on.”

There are no other injury concerns, the boss confirmed.

New striker Omar Bogle, who did not feature in the side which beat Undy 7-0, will play a part in the match.

“He will play 60 minutes,” said Rowberry. “The aim is between 45 to 60 minutes.

“I’m hoping we can get him up to 60 because he’s come back in decent shape.

“He’ll play. He’ll be the addition to the team.”

The match will be played as two 60-minute games, with entirely different elevens likely to be lining up in each half.

Last time out, youngsters Harrison Bright, Lewys Twamley, Jack Karadogan, Joe Woodiwiss and Tom Stokes all featured, while Even Ovendale, Evan Cadwallader and Kiban Rai were on the bench.

Rowberry confirmed that the youngsters would again get a chance to stake their claim for a place in his squad when the season comes around.

“They’ll be involved again,” he said. “They’ll be involved in all the coming games, likely up until the Forest Green game.

“They help us with what we’re trying to do. And obviously they’ve got an opportunity to try and excel as well.

“I think that’s what they have to remember. It’s really important for them.”
