WOW, what an impact the arrival of Craig Bellamy has had, not just on Cardiff City FC but on Welsh sport, even on the Welsh nation. In decades covering sport in Wales, mainly rugby of course, I can remember nothing like it, not the effect one player has had anyway.

There was the great John Charles’ homecoming, but he was really past his best then whereas Bellamy is at his peak. And Jonathan Davies’ return from rugby league was much heralded, but his best days were behind him as well.

No, there has been nothing like the absolute crescendo which has greeted Bellamy's bombshell decision – and he delivered on his debut as well, scoring an absolute firecracker and making two other goals in a 4-0 walloping of Doncaster.

As for those who sniped at Cardiff City for even partially paying the player’s £90,000 a week salary, however absurd that amount is, when they owe millions elsewhere he’s going to pay for that over and over again via capacity crowds, jersey sales and other merchandising plus sponsorship spin-offs.

And City can go a long way towards paying off their debts in the process. Job done, good business. Promotion to the Premiership as well really would seal the deal.
