WALES C 0 TURKEY U23 5
FOR their club side they’ve probably forgotten what it’s like to be on the wrong side of a hammering, but a trio of Newport County players were reminded on Tuesday night.
Exiles triumvirate Lee Evans, Ben Swallow and Andrew Hughes all started for Wales against Turkey U23s at Port Talbot in an International Challenge Trophy match that turned into a one-sided affair.
In fairness to Wales it was always a difficult task, a squad comprising entirely of non-league players competing against youngsters from some of the biggest clubs in Turkey including Galatasary.
In a well-balanced first half Wales had their chances and it was only after the break Turkey took command, eventually winning out 5-0.
“I was proud of the lads with the performance they put in, considering we’ve introduced four new players into the squad for this game, but also the opposition we’ve played, they were the professional players from the national league,” manager and ex-County man Terry Boyle commented.
“I’m proud of the lads and I couldn’t ask for any more the way they acquitted themselves.”
