GAVIN Henson is set for Rodney Parade next season… but in the colours of Bath.
The former Wales fly-half/centre had been linked with a move to Newport Gwent Dragons following the arrival of director of rugby Lyn Jones.
The pair had worked together at the Ospreys and last season at London Welsh in the Aviva Premiership.
Jones admitted when he was unveiled as the region’s new boss that he was a big fan of the 31-year-old.
“I haven’t spoken to Gavin,” he said. “We will see. He played well last year for London Welsh.
“When he was on the field he was one of the better outside-halves in the Premiership.
“It was just unfortunate he could not be on the field a little bit more.
“He’s still got a lot to offer rugby so we will see what happens.”
What has happened, however, is that Henson has penned a deal with Bath.
It means that the 33-times capped international could return to Wales when the Aviva Premiership outfit play the Dragons in a pre-season friendly on August 23 or when the sides lock horns in the Amlin Challenge Cup.
“I still very much want to be playing at the highest level and Bath is a big club with big plans,” said Henson.
“I know what is expected of me and I can’t wait to get started.”
