NEWPORT County AFC have bolstered their defence with the signing of Mickey Demetriou on a free transfer.
The 26-year-old spent last season with Shrewsbury Town and also boasts spells with Eastbourne Borough, Kidderminster and Cambridge United on his CV.
County manager Graham Westley is pleased to have the experienced defender available for Saturday’s Sky Bet League Two clash with Colchester United at Rodney Parade.
Westley said: “Mickey was a League Two promotion winner just two seasons ago (with Shrewsbury). His ability to win games at this level is exactly what we need at the Club.
“It hasn't been easy to persuade him to come on board but now he has put pen to paper, we will be a much stronger outfit.
“His character and footballing qualities are strongly evident and his presence will be a significant factor in our resurgence.”
Demetriou’s deal runs until the end of the season and he is the second fresh face added by Westley today following the loan signing of Huddersfield forward Florent Bojaj.
