WOEFUL Wales were held to a draw by their 2007 World Cup nemesis Fiji with Warren Gatland’s men lucky to share the spoils.
They had to rely on a 59th minute controversial penalty try for their solitary touchdown in an inept performance.
Newport Gwent Dragons back rower Dan Lydiate, playing out of position as openside flanker, was one of the few silver linings and he deservedly won the official man of the match award.
And Wales’ abysmal display robbed fellow Dragons back rower Toby Faletau of his first cap from the bench.
With New Zealand in town in just eight days, many home fans will shudder to think what the All Blacks could do to Wales.
Fiji were full value for their 13-6 half-time lead after Racing Metro centre Albert Vulivuli’s try, penalties by outside-half Seremaia Bai and fullback Josh Matavesi and a Bai conversion.
Wales No 10 Dan Biggar kicked two penalties in the first 40 minutes.
And Wales scarcely improved in the second half but the penalty try from a five-metre scrum, converted by replacement stand-off Stephen Jones, who also kicked a penalty, helped them go 16-13 up.
Bai’s penalty to draw the game with the last kick of the game was just reward for Fiji as they hammered the Wales line.
