THE Dragons will be forced into a change at fly-half for Friday’s United Rugby Championship clash with the Stormers after Cai Evans broke a bone in his shin.
The Wales international, who is primarily a full-back, was picked at 10 for the 34-27 defeat to Connacht last time out.
However, he suffered an early blow to his leg and will miss the Rodney Parade fixture (kick-off 7.35pm) and his trip back to Swansea to face his old Ospreys teammates a week on Saturday.
“Cai played with a broken bone in a shin for 65 minutes and got through it, which is unbelievable,” said head coach Dai Flanagan.
“He ploughed on but will miss a bit of rugby now. Hopefully it’s not the season over for him and we will try to get him back for the Scarlets, if not that then the Wales tour.”
The loss of Evans is likely to lead to Will Reed returning at fly-half while Angus O’Brien, whose season has been hindered by a pair of arm injuries, is likely to come onto the bench.
Jordan Williams came into the XV against Connacht for his first start since Boxing Day and is poised to continue at full-back.
The Dragons and Stormers name their teams on Thursday.
