HAVE you ever tried Square Pizza? This well-known pizza parlour has sites all around South Wales and a huge range of options.
Established in 2016 and famed for having, you guessed it, square-shaped pizzas, foodies have called The Square Pizza Co. ‘the best pizza I’ve had in years’, ‘phenomenally good’ and said their garlic dip ‘is to die for’.
So The Argus decided to see if it lives up to the hype and try the pizzeria's biggest pizza offering from the Maindee store, a 14 inch Four Corners square pizza.
On their website, The Square Pizza Co. says: "Try our Unique 4 Corners Pizza, Choose Any 4x Pizzas & we'll Make a Family Size Treat Just for you.
"Available in 14" Family Size only
"Not eligible as part of any deals."
Toppings
The Square Pizza Co. has a huge selection of toppings and variations on classic pizzas with a twist.
As well as classic pizzas such as margarita, Hawaiian, triple pepperoni and meat feast, some diners will be delighted by the additions of peri peri, Mexicano, sizzler, and Indian spice on a pizza.
Base
The pizzeria offers a choice of seven types of pizza bases, which are: deep pan, Italian crust, and five variations of stuffed crust including cheese, pepperoni, jalapenos, garlic, and BBQ sauce and pepperoni.
There are also four options for sauces, which include: tomato, BBQ, garlic, and chilli.
Four Corners Pizza
Catering for a party, we decided to go for a Four Corners pizza deal on a deep pan base, choosing four of over 20 different pizza variations.
On this occasion, we opted for three chicken options and one veggie option: the Sizzler, the Cheesy Chicken Tikka, the Veggie Extreme, and the Chicken4You.
The Sizzler
The Sizzler showcases a spicy and garlic-y pizza, and comes with chicken tikka, garlic butter, sun dried tomatoes, onions, mushrooms and jalapenos. We chose tomato sauce for the base.
The Sizzler is great if you can stand the heat. It was rich and luxurious, and the sun dried tomatoes added a burst of sweetness while the garlic butter made it all come together. One to try if you're looking to branch out into new flavours.
The Cheesy Chicken Tikka
The Cheesy Chicken Tikka comes with chicken tikka, onions, green peppers, sweetcorn and extra cheese. We chose garlic sauce for the base.
A less flavoursome option but the Cheesy Chicken Tikka still provides a good level of warmth.
The Veggie Extreme
Onions, mushrooms, green peppers, sweetcorn, tomatoes and olives make up the Veggie Extreme pizza. We chose tomato sauce for the base.
Possibly the least favoured option by our guests, the Veggie Extreme had a great amount of toppings but was let down by the artificial-tasting hot sauce. Previously, we've tried the Vegetarian Hot pizza which in my opinion is a far better option for vegetarians or for those looking to reduce their meat intake.
The Chicken4You
Laden with every type of chicken on the menu, the Chicken4You pizza has plain, Mexican, Chinese, spicy, garlic and tikka chicken. We chose BBQ sauce for the base.
This pizza option was the most surprising. Too many chefs can spoil the broth, as they say, but that wasn't the case here.
The Square Pizza Co. adds some kind of herbs on this pizza which made it a flavour explosion!
Final thoughts
The base on this Four Corners pizza was cooked perfectly and reminiscent of the classic Pizza Hut deep pan pizza. With a delicate and tender base, a slight chew, and crispiness without being greasy or hard, this is a firm favourite in our household.
Each of the four corners flavours tasted unique and held their own at the party.
All in all, this pizza exceeded expectations. Next time, we will swap the Veggie Extreme and Cheesy Chicken Tikka for other options, in a quest to find the perfect pizza combination.
The pizza itself costs £19.99. With a delivery charge of £2.95 and a 10 per cent discount when you order from them directly, the total cost was £20.94.
