WELSH Music Foundation (WMF) has drawn together the great and the good for a series of expert masterclasses designed to turn the volume up on the best of Welsh talent.
Artists, promoters, labels and other professionals working in the Welsh music industry can learn how to write press releases, apply for funding and secure that all important radio airplay as a new programme of regular WMF workshops gets underway.
Experts already signed up include BBC Radio producer Darren Broome and UK music industry PR expert Elin Rees, whose clients include Radio 1, BBC Television, Channel 4’s Big Brother and MTV.
Elin, who has managed the publicity for Radio 1’s Big Weekend, The Green Man Festival and Cardiff’s Swn Festival in her time, is the first to lead a session – entitled ‘Perfecting Music in PR’ – in Cardiff today.
Described as a ‘real eye and ear opener’ for musicians, singers, producers and writers, the following session will then see Darren Broome identify ‘30 Reasons Why You Don’t Get Played On The Radio’ on Wednesday, August 14.
Crammed with past examples of BBC Radio Wales Singles of The Week and songs from Welsh artists that have made it to network radio, the workshop will see the Radio Wales selection team member explain how to approach stations for the best chance of getting on air.
Core funded by the Welsh Government, growing artist management services, promotional activity and overall musical talent in Wales is a priority concern for WMF.
