ANDY HOWELLS chats to STEF from WHALES IN CUBICLES ahead of the bands appearance at The Buffalo Bar, Cardiff on August 14
How did you all get together?
In kind of a weird way. I was living in the U.S at the time, Jamie and Alex were there visiting, we met at a Dismemberment Plan reunion showin D.C. many years ago and exchanged emails.
When Imoved to London and started playing in bands years later, we bumped into each other at a show by a band I was in at the time.
Where does your name originate from?
It’s taken froma line off Andrew Bird’s sing “Plasticities”.Wedon’t sound anything like him, but I thought it was cool name.
What can people expect from your gigs?
Sweaty delicious sonic honey.
What’s your most memorable gig?
The most enjoyable showwe ever played was at Koko in Camden.
It was one of those nights where everyone in the audience was absolutely up for it.
Your new single is called Disappear, can you tell us about that?
It came about as a result of I keep hearing the word disappear everywhere I turn my head lately.
It’s a song about giving up or forgetting who you are, and wondering if there even is such a thing.
