THE Irish supergroup Dervish return to the Borough Theatre, Abergavenny this week.
Bouzouki, mandola, flute, fiddle, bodhran and accordion combine with the unique vocals of the entrancing Cathy Jordan to capture both the explosive energy and the intricate subtleties of the Irish tradition.
The concert at the Borough Theatre will feature music and songs fromtheir newalbumThe Thrush In The Storm. The recording continues the band’s on-going exploration of the Irish tradition, rediscovering hidden gems that have lain buried for years – sometimes centuries. As singer Cathy Jordan says, “It’s extraordinary that in a tradition that has been explored by countless performers, there are still so many great songs and tunes waiting to be unearthed.”
Since joining Dervish in 1991, Cathy Jordan’s engaging presence and beautifully measured delivery have made her one of Irish music’s most recognised figures, regarded by many as the most distinctive voice in Irish music today.
Exceptional musicianship, breathtaking vocals, high-energy sets of tunes and instantly compelling songs make Dervish as complete a band as to be found anywhere in the tradition, as they continue to travel the globe, setting the standard for authentic Irish music wherever they go. Dervish play The Borough theatre, Abergavenny on Friday September 13 at 8pm.
