North Wales singer-songwriter, Al Lewis, delights fans with his latest single ‘A Child's Christmas in Wales’. Based upon the short-story of the same name by Dylan Thomas, the release coincides with the beginning of a year-long celebration marking what would've been the poet's 100th Birthday in 2014.

The single sees Al reunited with his long-time collaborator Sarah Howells (Paper Aeroplanes) and also features a guest appearance by Welsh harpist & Classic BRIT Award nominee Catrin Finch.

“One of the reasons I chose this piece of prose was the modern-day relevance of the story and the nostalgic feelings it evokes,” says Al, “ Everyone can relate to that unique excitement of being a child at Christmas. And no matter how old you are – somethings never change, like hearing the heart-warming sound of Carol-singers, the smell of the dinner emanating from the kitchen and the simple pleasure of gathering as a family.

The artwork for the single also features an original illustration from the book by Edward Ardizzone.”

Lewis has already been compared to the likes of James Taylor and Meic Stevens which place him in good company with the music he is creating. Taking elements from these revered influences, Al keeps his material fresh, delivering each melodic track with a modern twist and youthful energy.

Al's last English-language album ‘Battles’ was recorded and produced by Charlie Peacock (producer of the Double Grammy Award winners - The Civil Wars) at his home studio in Nashville, Tennessee and talked of the passing of time, life's trials and tribulations and the endless search for fulfillment.

Previous to ‘Battles’ there was the Welsh Music Prize nominee 'In the Wake' and two Welsh-language albums 'Sawl Ffordd Allan' and 'Ar Gof a Chadw' both spending multiple weeks at Number One in the Welsh Language Album Charts. Al has also scooped the award for 'Best Male Artist' two years in a row (2011/12) at the BBC Radio Cymru Awards.
