ACCLAIMED US folk singer Devon Sproule is visiting Wales next month with a gig at The Point in Cardiff Bay.

At age 25, Sproule lives on the road. Born on a hippy commune making hammocks, she went through school and made her first record and begin touring the US before she was 18.

Sproule merges Appalachian, folk and jazz influences and her third album, 2003's Upstate Songs was included in Rolling Stone magazine's top albums of the year.

Last year, she released her fourth album, Keep Your Silver Shined. Recorded in the heart of Virginia's Blue Ridge mountains, this is an album that has become an important addition to the great American songbook. The BBC praised it's beautifully sparse arrangements and melodies that surprise the ear'.

Just back from a tour with Woodstock legend, Richie Havens, Sproule is primed to put in a performance of some note at The Point. Come and see what all the fuss is about.

She plays on Friday, February 15, at 7.30pm.

Tickets cost £10 in advance/£12 on the door and are available through Spillers Records (02920 224905/www.spillersrecords.co.uk), Ticketline (02920 230130/www.ticketline.co.uk) and The Point (02920 460873/www.thepointcardiffbay.com).
