FOR those of you who don't already know, Ian Hunter was the lead singer of the English rock band Mott the Hoople.

Formed in 1969, they took the UK by storm and with his large corkscrew hair and darker than dark sunglasses Hunter soon became the focus point of the band.

Since the late 1960s Hunter and the Mott have toured all over the world capturing listeners from all directions.

One huge fan of the band was David Bowie who worked with them on the hit song All the Young Dudes. Other songs in their discography include Roll Away the Stone, Golden Age of Rock n' Roll and Honaloochie Boogie.

From 1974 Hunter disbanded Mott the Hoople to focus on his solo career.

Hunter's work has been cited as a major inspiration for numerous bands including The Clash, Def Leppard, REM, Motley Crue, Blur and Oasis to name but a few.
