SWEET Chorus, the gypsy jazz band fronted by internationally acclaimed guitarist John Etheridge returns to the Borough Theatre in Abergavenny on Wednesday at 7.30pm.
The group were originally formed as a personal tribute by Etheridge to his mentor, the violinist Stephane Grappelli with whom he worked in the 1970s and 80s.
This concert celebrates the inspirational partnership of Grappelli and the legendary gypsy jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt in this centenary year of Reinhardt’s birth.
Etheridge is joined on stage by Chris Garrick, widely regarded as the best violinist in jazz today.
The relationship of these two musicians has been described as one of the most potent in contemporary European jazz. The concert will feature famous tunes from the Hot Club of France - the legendary group that featured Grappelli and Reinhardt - as well as duos from Etheridge and Garrick’s acclaimed album ‘Dimming of the Day’.
Tickets, which cost £14 (concessions £12) are available on 01873 850805.
