FIVE people were taken to court by Caerphilly County Borough Council and fined in the last week for committing environmental offences.

The offences, for littering or dog fouling, were brought after the non-payment of fixed penalty notices of £75, issued by the council’s enforcement team.

Among those fined were Kameron Maddocks, of Bright Street, Cross Keys, whowas fined for dropping litter at Waunfawr Park Road, Crosskeys. Maddocks was ordered to pay a £400 fine, together with £85 costs and a £15 surcharge.

Another was Rebecca Williams, of Waunllwyn Crescent, Blackwood, who was fined for dropping a cigarette butt at Twyn Road, Ystrad Mynach. Her case was heard at Abergavenny Magistrates Court. She was ordered to pay a £400 fine, £85 costs and a £15 surcharge.

Cllr David Poole, cabinet member for community and leisure services, said: “These five people, collectively, have been ordered to pay a total of £2,200 and each of these offences could so easily have been avoided had they taken their environmental responsibilities seriously.”
