A CENTURY of Newport County AFC was celebrated yesterday at the launch of a special exhibition detailing the club’s history.

Deputy Newport mayor Cllr Cliff Suller opened the collection, which boasts vintage football shirts and programmes at Newport Museum and Art Gallery.

He was joined by around 150 guests including Exiles players of the 50s, 60s and 70s – Albert Derreck, Alan Wood, Keith Tennant, Davis Williams and George Walters.

The current 2012/13 season marks 100 years of professional football in the city and the current team are making it one to remember – flying high at the top of the Blue Square Premier.

Produced in partnership with Newport AFC Supporters Trust the exhibition looks at how the club has raised the profile of Newport and taken supporters on an emotional roller coaster, ranging from glorious successes to the depths of despair.

It runs until January 26.
