NEWPORT Operatic Society will shortly be presenting the thrilling and spine-tingling musical Jekyll and Hyde, in the newly refurbished auditorium at the Dolman Theatre.

Based on the classic novel by Robert Louis Stephenson, this show follows the story of Dr Henry Jekyll’s desperate endeavour to trial a miracle cure for dementia and the disastrous personal consequences this experiment has for him and Victorian society. The fascinating and chilling story unfolds against the background of the hypocrisy of high society and the hardship of those less well off in Victorian London. The plot also embraces Henry’s love for his fiancée Emma and his attempt to help Lucy, a lady of the night, whom he meets by chance on a visit with friends to one of London’s less salubrious nightspots.

The musical score is as thrilling as the plot and includes the inspiring hit song This is the Moment, as well as the stunning chorus number Façade. The rest of the score embraces moving “torch songs,”

further rousing choruses, touching and beautiful duets, as well as a saucy musical number called Bring on the Men, headed by the notorious Lucy.

In short, this is a modern musical packed with drama and melody, which will appeal to a wide audience.

The cast is made up a mixture of familiar faces and voices, alongside some of the brightest and best young new talent from Newport and Cardiff, with everyone committed to bringing the best of music and drama to the Dolman Theatre Stage.

Performances will run from Wednesday November 21 to Saturday November 24. Tickets cost £8 on November 21, then £10 for the remaining three performances.
