A CHARITY champion who has raised £43,000 in memory of his parents will take on one last challenge.

Mike Williams, 47, hopes to defend the charity boxing title he won against Lee Ridge in Newport last year when he steps into the ring one final time to face him for a rematch in aid of Cancer Research.

The former Welsh weightlifter has been training six days a week since his last fight last year, dropping from 19 to 15 stones. But he admits now is the time to step down.

He said: “I’m in the best shape of my life but my body doesn’t want to do it anymore. I just know it’s time to give up.

“My head wants to do it but the tools are not so keen, I just cannot wait to get it out of the way.”

Mr Williams, of Risca, has dedicated the past 17 years of his life to raising much-needed funds for cancer charities after his parents, Ron and Helen Williams, both battled different forms of the disease.

His past challenges have included 22 sponsored truck- and double-decker bus-pulls, two London Marathons and an almost nude charity calendar.
