A WOMAN who threw a Pot Noodle at a child and a toy at another was given an 18-month supervision requirement.

Ruth Giles, 46, of Ladyhill Road, Newport, appeared at Cardiff Crown Court after previously pleading guilty to the common assault of a child and the battery of another child.

Prosecutor Ieuan Bennett said one of the victims said Giles had thrown a hot Pot Noodle over them. This left stains on the child’s clothing but caused no injuries.

Another child said Giles had thrown a plastic toy at them, which left a bruise on the child’s elbow and forearm area which was said to have measured two inches by one inch.

Giles was arrested and said the Pot Noodle was cold when she had grabbed hold of it but denied throwing the toy.

The court heard that Giles had been sentenced to 51 weeks’ imprisonment suspended for two years in June 2009 after pleading guilty to two counts of fraud. This was after she stole around £15,000 using credit cards belonging to her brother after having issues with gambling and debt problems.

She was also given a supervision requirement in June 2009 and a mental health requirement to receive non-residential treatment.

Representing Giles yesterday, Caroline Rees said she suffered from depression and is a “lady who struggles to cope with life”.

Judge Daniel Williams said reports on Giles all made “for desperately sorry reading”. He also ordered Giles to complete ten sessions of a crime reduction initiative.
