A NEW book featuring stories created by children and their families in Newport will be kept with other treasures in one of the city’s libraries.
Newport, Vale of Glamorgan and Blaenau Gwent councils made a successful bid for a grant from the Welsh Government Libraries Inspire campaign.
It funded a project to encourage children and their families to discover and engage with a rich tapestry of Welsh heritage and culture, raise awareness of history resources available in libraries, promote Welsh writing in English and develop creative writing skills.
Former Children’s Laureate for Wales, Dewi Pws, delivered creative writing sessions to children, young people and families based on community, places and legends.
Families from Fairoak Nursery and Bettws Play Club created a story, and families from Darllen Difyr Casnewydd and children from Adran yr Urdd Casnewydd also were involved.
These stories are being read to more than 220 children involved and they will have their own copy to keep. A copy will be available in Newport Central Library.
