A TEENAGE girl suffering from heat exhaustion had to be airlifted to hospital after collapsing on a mountain near Abergavenny.
The 16-year-old girl became ill during a Duke of Edinburgh training exercise in the Black Mountains on Sunday.
Abergavenny-based Longtown Mountain Rescue Team were called to her aid near Bal-Bach, 1,500ft above Llanthony Priory.
The girl collapsed with heat exhaustion but regained consciousness before she was flown by Wales Air Ambulance to Nevill Hall Hospital, Abergavenny, for treatment.
Len Harbottle, a search manager for Longtown MRT, said: “The conditions on Sunday afternoon were pretty warm. Anyone contemplating strenuous exercise in these current conditions should drink plenty of fluids, keep their heads covered and wear loose-fitting clothing.”
