CONSIDER yourself part of the family at Fairwater High School this week as pupils put on a production of Lionel Bart’s Oliver! at the school starting tomorrow at 7pm and running, until Friday, July 12.
Students from across the Cwmbran school will put some special oom-pah-pah into their performance in honour of music teacher Madeleine Lewis, who has been helping them rehearse and is now leaving.
Miss Lewis, who came in to school to cover maternity leave, has helped the choir in performing at the carol service, several charity performances and at a nursing home, said head of drama Sam Miller.
Speaking about this year’s production, Mr Miller said: “This is my first production in charge and the reason we chose Oliver! was to engage the younger students.
“We have a lot of talented youngsters and as the school is moving forward and improving, this enriches the curriculum and makes the students more fully rounded.”
The stars of the show include Chelsi Davey from Year 9, playing Nancy; Joseph Everett from Year 13 playing bad guy Bill Sykes; Corey Elliott and Tom Purcell, both from Year 11, as the Artful Dodger and Fagin; and Year 8 pupil Rhys James as the eponymous hero Oliver.
Tickets for the show cost £5.
