A CAMPAIGN to stop members of the public pouring away oil, paints, solvents or chemicals down drains came to Crumlin High Level Primary School in Caerphilly yesterday.
Pupils painted yellow fish on the pavement near drains to raise awareness of the creatures living in water.
Keep Wales Tidy is looking to raise awareness that materials like oil and solvents can poison fish and wildlife and smother plants.
And because of the way these contaminants spread, it takes only a small amount to harm the environment.
Taking part in the Yellow Fish campaign and educating pupils on water pollution will contribute towards the primary school’s future Green Flag awards and maintaining their current silver status.
The campaign will run until the end of July and Keep Wales Tidy is urging other schools, community groups and businesses across Wales to get involved.
Free yellow fish kits containing stencils, paint, gloves, a hi-vis vest, safety goggles, a manual and a typical risk assessment will be provided on a first-come first-served basis.
