THE former Pontypool register office is to be sold for £175,000 and looks set to be turned into flats.
Torfaen council has been trying to sell the building on Hanbury Road since registration services were transferred to the nearby Civic Centre in 2010 and cabinet declared the building surplus to requirements in May that year.
The building went on the market through Nuttall Parker estate agents in January this year and a bid has since been made meeting the valuation, subject to planning permission being granted for change of use of the property from offices to residential.
Torfaen’s cabinet approved the sale subject to the developer’s planning application being successful.
