BLAENAU Gwent AM Alun Davies has praised the Welsh Government’s Employer Support Grant for helping 100 disabled former Remploy workers back into employment.
The Employer Support Grant offers financial support for employers looking to offer suitable and sustainable employment to disabled Remploy workers displaced by the latest round of factory closures in Wales, one of which was in Abertillery.
Funding is available to organisations who offer suitable employment to disabled exemployees of Remploy for a minimum period of four years.
The support is also available to former disabled Remploy workers who have become selfemployed or are planning to set up their own business.
Last year the UK Government announced that a number of Remploy plants were to close under ‘Phase 1’ of their plans.
In response the Welsh Government launched the Employer Support Grant to help displaced Remploy workers find new work.
Mr Davies said: “It’s great to see the Welsh Government fulfilling its pledge to give practical support to allow former Remploy workers back into employment.
“These men and women are now back in work, providing for themselves and their families which is all they ever wanted.
“I would urge any Remploy worker who is still unemployed in Blaenau Gwent to get in touch to find out more about this scheme.”
