HUNDREDS of people enjoyed the sunshine at the weekend as Abergavenny held its annual carnival.

As if the renowned Festival of Cycling wasn’t enough to keep the masses entertained in the town, Saturday sawa host of reasons for people to get out and enjoy the sunshine.

Several hundred people lined the streets as a parade made its way through the town centre and into Bailey Park.

Numbers lowered slightly in the afternoon as the temperatures rose but organisers and participants were pleased with the success of the event.

Among the parade participants were staff, parents and pupils from Llantilio Pertholey Church in Wales Primary School, Abergavenny, who were awarded the prize for the “most imaginative” float for their ‘Under the Sea’ themed creation.

There was plenty for the crowds to enjoy on the day, including a Blues Brothers tribute duo, circus entertainers and even a vintage bus.

The Solent Eagles motorcycle team also provided a few wows for the crowd as they put on a show.

Parent Jody Davies said: “We’re very pleased as there’s been a lot of hard work put in.”

Martyn Wright, senior recruitment officer at Gwent Wildlife Trust, said: “People seem to be having fun today. There’s been lots of children about.

“I’ve also signed up eight new members today which I am very pleased about.”

Chairman of the carnival, Chris Evans said: “I’m very pleased with how it has gone. We’ve had traders involved, a classic car show, a Help for Heroes bike ride and schools.”
