GREEN fingered pupils from Cwmbran scooped prizes in this year’s Schools in Bloom competition.
A group of pupils from the eight competing schools attended the prize giving event.
Troughs, soil and seeds were delivered to the primary schools around Easter time, and since the pupils have cared for the plants.
Llanyrafon School was awarded first place winning £75, Nant Celyn Primary School came second winning £50 and Henllys Church in Wales School came third winning £25.
A gift of £15 was awarded to all the remaining schools for their efforts in taking part.
The competition was organised by Cwmbran Community Council and the Chairman Bill Walker presented the prizes.
He said: "It’s wonderful to see our youngsters taking an interest in the environment and learning about how to care for plants.
"As a keen gardener myself I hope that they retain their interest as they grow up and gain as much pleasure from this hobby as I have over the years."
