The only bad thing about this show was the air conditioning which never stood a chance. After support from Max Raptor and Tiger Cub, the latter showcasing a very promising sound, and a few minor tech glitches (fixed through amp kicking) the main act starts their set.
Although only a 3 piece outfit; Dinosaur Pile-Up produce a massive sound that has often been likened to the Seattle sound of the early 90’s. It certainly pleases the crowd. Despite only having released two albums, the most recent being a fairly new release, and an EP there were no signs of a stretched set.
The tracks from the new album work perfectly with the older material to create a seamless set of old and new. All the songs were well received but ‘Beach Bug’, ‘Traynor’ and ‘Arizona Waiting’ were the standout tracks of a stellar set. The band also finished with an extended version of the title track from their new album ‘Nature Nurture’.
While the temperature was reaching ridiculous levels the band never looked like slowing down and probably could have gone on playing all night.
The show as a whole was a total bargain. £7 to see DPU on their own would have seen like value for money but being treated to a ton of bands was awesome. Any future shows and record releases from DPU are certain to be on the same level and should definitely not be missed; also checking out their back catalogue is worth it.
