FRIENDS and family of a Newport man who died of Motor Neurone Disease raised more than £4,000 in his memory at a charity darts challenge.
Father-of-two Andrew Shorney, 50, of Ringland, Newport, was remembered at a 24-hour darts match at The Friendship pub on June 14.
Around 12 players battled it out from 2pm Friday to 2pm Saturday, raising £4,312.22 for the Motor Neurone Disease Association.
Mr Shorney died in March two years after being diagnosed with the degenerative disease, which damages the nervous system and causes muscle weakness.
Childhood friend Carl Goodwin, 48, said the group, who smashed their £1,000 target were overwhelmed by the support of the community and thanked everyone who helped out.
Another fundraiser will be held for the charity at The Open Hearth pub in Ringland on the evening of July 28.
It will welcome professional darts players Tony "Silverback" O'Shea and Darryl "The Dazzler" Fitton.
